—————————————
Have you seen 12 Strong? Do you want to? 2017 saw an increase in the number of military movies – and 2018 is no exception. But, not all of them have such a connection to us and Not A Pedestrian life!
Thanks to Warner Bros. and 12 Strong, we have a giveaway for you.
Chris Hemsworth (“Thor,” “The Avengers” films) and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road,” “Nocturnal Animals”) star in “12 Strong,” a powerful new war drama from Alcon Entertainment, Black Label Media, and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Hemsworth, if you didn’t already know is an Aussie. After heading home at Christmas my accent is back with a vengeance! May the Aussies always make Holloywood their home away from home.
With D an active duty service member who has deployed more than once, these types of films have encouraged conversations between us that may not have happened otherwise. For us, it is about learning and understanding more about each other and all that we have experienced.
Based on Doug Stanton’s best-selling book, “Horse Soldiers,” 12 Strong is a story of heroism based on true events that unfolded a world away in the aftermath of 9/11.
“12 Strong” is set in the harrowing days following 9/11 when a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans—accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare—must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.
Although I don’t want to ruin movie magic for you – some of the movie was filmed just down the road from where we live in the sands of White Sands National Monument and the foothills of the Sacramento mountains. Some of the extras in the film are involved with local theater productions here – which makes living here fun!
Here is a clip from the movie to peak your interest:
